Absolutely. Some of your items may be the missing link in understanding past experiences in the Italian-Canadian narrative. ICAP invites you to SHARE AN ITEM in order to get you started.
Am I able to gather any of these materials and identify them? (i.e. people, places, dates)
Most likely. It’s a question of locating what you have and identifying the persons, places, and dates involved for each piece. As an individual, you may need to talk to your immediately family and friends to do so. Senior family members and friends may be especially invaluable to you. ICAP is here to help you.
Are there family members and friends I need to speak to in order to find out more?
Most likely. As an individual, if you speak to persons who can help you build your story, then you need tools to conduct these oral interviews. ICAP provides detailed information to help you.
I have some materials that I would like to keep confidential. Is this possible?
Yes. Just write to icap@icap and someone will respond.
I have boxes of letters, documents, photos, and similar materials. What should I do with them?
It’s extremely important not to discard these types of documents until an expert has been informed. ICAP can link you with an expert and share the news of the existence of your materials across the national ICAP network.

ICAP organizational membership provides access to expert advice and assists in initiating the process of long-term access to your existing collections without additional charges. Moreover, in the event that ICAP applies for project funding, ICAP gives preference to working with organizational members as partners.
